Elmore, Genoa libraries to kick off summer reading program

        Harris-Elmore and Genoa Branch Libraries will kick off the popular Summer Reading programs Saturday, June 3.
        Sign up online or in person and get a prize for registering. Those who read a certain number of hours (children’s and teen programs), or books (baby and adult programs) will receive prizes at various intervals throughout the program.
​​        Participants may log their hours or books online through the Beanstack app and then pick up their prizes at the library. Paper logs are also available.

        In addition, there will be plenty of chances to win more prize entries by attending programs this summer. The schedule of events includes:
        • June 3: Help kick of Summer Reading with an interactive magic show at 10 a.m. at the Genoa Branch Library and at 1 p.m. at the Harris-Elmore Library.
        • June 16: Chalk the block with kind messages on the sidewalks of downtown Elmore. Meet at the Harris-Elmore Library at 11 a.m. Chalk will be provided. Spread the kindness in downtown Genoa on July 21. Meet at the library at 1 p.m.
        • June 20: Join local artist Alanea Davis for an adult-only craft night at the Genoa Branch Library beginning at 5:30 p.m. Learn how to create an art piece out of pottery and driftwood found on the beaches of Lake Erie. Registration is required, as limited seats are available. Sign up and view an example of the craft on the library’s Facebook page. The craft is free, but donations will be accepted to help cover the cost of supplies. This program will also be held July 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the Harris-Elmore Public Library.
        • June 22: Teens are invited to escape the Stranger Things-themed Escape Room at 2 p.m. at the Harris-Elmore Public Library. The Escape Room will be held again at the Genoa Branch Library on July 18 at 2 p.m.
        • July 24: Connect through rhythm and music with Lori Fithian, drum circle facilitator and workshop leader as she
brings her collection of hand drums and percussion toys to transform the library into a “Drummunity.” The high energy and empowering activity will be held at the Genoa Branch Library beginning at 11 a.m. and at the Harris-Elmore Library starting at 2 p.m.
        • July 29: Celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday with crafts, music, snacks and much more at the Harris-Elmore Public Library from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. All ages are welcome.
        • Aug. 3: Adults, elevate your night by solving a mystery. In the case of a mugging-turned-murder, Las Vegas needs help catching a killer at the Harris Elmore Public Library at 5:30 p.m. Ages 18+.
