Dorothy Smalley

Dorothy Smalley age 88 of Oregon passed away peacefully at home on January 1st, 2024.  Dorothy was born on July 17, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio to J.O. & Rosetta (Foster) Meeks. She attended Northwood schools.  She worked as an elevator operator in downtown Toledo for 14 years, then retired from Motor Wheel (Goodyear) after 22 years. Dorothy married the love of her life, Donald Smalley, with whom she spent 38 wonderful years.

Dorothy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She cherished her family, especially her great grandsons’, Christopher and Nicholas, who she held close to her heart.  The bond they shared was one of the greatest gifts of her life.  She enjoyed watching the boys, going to their baseball games and spending time together playing cards and games at home.  She had a special bond with her granddaughter, Daniele, who loved her deeply. She was also blessed to have Keith, her grandson-in-law, who loved and cared for her as his very own.  Dorothy enjoyed her daily walks with friends at the Woodville Mall.  

When the mall was closed down, she then had her morning coffee at McDonald’s with friends.  Every night she enjoyed working her word search books while watching TV. Dorothy was an extremely kind and loving lady who will be dearly missed. 

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Ellen Penny Meeks; grandchildren Daniele (Keith) Walter, John (Janeen) Schwarz; four great grandson’s, and a great-great grandson.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and five sisters, and her loving husband Donald.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Sunday, January 7, 2024, from 12-4:00 p.m. where services will be held at 4:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
