DG’s Ice Cream to open for 2021 season on April 10

The March 15 post on DG’s Ice Cream’s Facebook page elicited jubilant comments from followers.
“So, I guess it’s time to spill the beans! DG’s will be opening on April 10 for the 2021 season,” the post read.
After being closed for all of 2020, DG’s will open under the leadership of Clayton Moore, his wife Jessica, and his sister Angela Moore, who are taking the reins of the family business.
DG’s has been a staple in the Curtice-area community for the past 32 years, and with the retirement of David and Brenda Moore, second-generation owners, the old-fashioned ice cream shop has gone through some updates. The new, third-generation management team is dubbing the updates “DG’s Ice Cream 3.0.”
New to DG’s this year will be the acceptance of credit cards; a new flat-top grill for cooking burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches and brats and a deep fryer was installed for making French fries, chicken tenders and fried cheese. Of course, new flavors of ice cream will also be available.
DG’s will be sourcing most of its products from as many local suppliers as possible, Moore said. “Our ice cream is from Toft’s dairy farm in Sandusky. Our meat products come from Tank’s Meats in Elmore.”
With COVID-19 concerns in mind, DG’s is putting additional safety precautions in place.
“Our employees will all be wearing masks and their temperatures will be taken before each shift. Sanitization protocols have always a key component for DG’s, and will continue to be for the 2021 season,” Clayton said.
“Minimal-contact payment and service will be in place as well, and additional hand sanitization stations have been purchased for customers to use during their time at DG’s,” he said.
“As an outdoor venue, we have plenty of socially distanced tables (13 total) for families to enjoy their ice cream while keeping a safe distance from others,” Clayton said.
DG’s also offers an open-air covered gazebo. What customers won’t find, however is a drive-thru.
“We feel that life is rushed enough as it is,” Clayton said. “We invite customers to take a second and enjoy their ice cream with their family on our gazebo or one of our many safely spaced tables.
“If you are tight on time and you would rather take your food and ice cream home, we can make that happen too,” he added.
For DG’s menu and updates, visit www.dgs-icecream.com or follow on social media at www.facebook.com/dgsicecream or on Instagram at @dgsicecream.
DG’s is located at 10609 Jerusalem Rd., Curtice. A ribbon-cutting will be held on opening day at 11 a.m. in the gazebo. Random giveaways will be held from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., with prizes including free ice cream, DG’s swag, novelty items and more.
