David E. Bowland, CPA

David E. Bowland, 71, of Sylvania Township, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, September 13, 2021. David was born in Toledo, Ohio, on October 30, 1949, to the late Elton and Dorothy (Mathews) Bowland. He was a 1967 graduate of Genoa High School.
David attended The University of Toledo. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), graduating cum laude, and his Master of Business Administration (MBA) in accounting from the University. He was part of Beta Alpha Psi during his time there. He was also a member of the U.S. Army Reserve.
After graduating college, David married the love of his life, Brenda Haack, on June 10, 1972; they met working at Latham’s Grocery store in Genoa. Brenda also attended The University of Toledo and they are forever part of Rocket Nation.
He was a tax preparer and advisor for more than 40 years, specializing in cross-border international taxes for individuals. He worked at Ernst & Young (formerly Arthur Young) for 33 years. He was the Human Capital Global Mobility practice leader for the Detroit and Toledo offices of E&Y. He retired in July 2006 and started his own sole proprietor tax consulting business.
He enjoyed traveling with family, including nearly annual trips to Hilton Head Island and Charleston, South Carolina, along with Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. David and Brenda enjoyed going to Disney parks, including countless visits to Walt Disney World since its opening in 1971. The family’s most recent trip during Christmas 2019 was one that they will never forget.
David and Brenda enjoyed theater, attending shows at the Stranahan Theater, Valentine Theatre, Toledo Repertoire Theatre, and Croswell Opera House, and supporting their son, Matthew, in his theatrical projects.
David always had a smile and loved catching up with family and friends. He would also do anything for them. He didn’t hesitate to drive across town to get something for dinner that Brenda thought sounded good. He loved visits with his grandkitties and spending time with all his Yorkies over the years. He will be dearly missed.

Molnar; sister, Suzanne (Richard) Rintamaa; nephew, Michael (Margaret) Rintamaa; nieces, Melissa (Kevin) Friend, Amanda (Noah) Wolf-Johnstone, and Elizabeth Wolf; six great-nieces and one great-nephew; best friends, RoxAnne and Steve Miligan; his fur-buddy and four-legged little girl, Sophie Jo; and grandkitties, Luckey, Sonoma, and Kira.
