Clyde Merlin Haar
February 7, 1928 – May 19, 2019

 

Clyde Merlin Haar, age 91, of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Elmore, Ohio passed away on Monday, May 19, 2019 at Hospice.  He was born February 7, 1928 in Elmore to Herbert Lewis Haar and Edna Emilie Lieske.  He graduated from Pemberville High School with the class of 1946.

After high school, he learned to fly at Haar Airport, being one of the early members of Portage Valley Flying Club.  He worked as a carpenter and also at LOF and Erie Ordnance Depot.  He also enjoyed playing the Hammond organ with partners at various restaurants in the Toledo area including playing at Tony Packo’s with the Cakewalkin’ Jass Band in Toledo.  Moving to Florida, he continued his music career.

In 1949 he married Joanne Gockerman (divorced), who died 12-1-12.  They had two sons, Michael Merlin Haar and Phillip Louis Haar .

Clyde is survived by his son, Michael, of Coco Beach, Florida and a granddaughter LeAnn.  He was preceded in death by his parents Herb and Edna Haar, brother Glen Lewis (died 12-29-30), son Phillip Haar (died 9-15-13), and his second wife.

Memorial contributions may be made to Nancy Haar Pries or to Michael Haar to be used to transport Clyde’s cremains from Florida to Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery. Date to be determined.
