A federal grand jury has returned a two-count indictment charging a North Carolina man with sexual exploitation of a minor and receipt or distribution of child pornography.
Raymond Thomas Jordan, 39, was stopped by an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper Jan. 15 while driving on Interstate 80 in Wood County.
According to the criminal complaint, the trooper conducted a traffic stop on a semi-truck pulling a trailer and Jordan, who was driving the vehicle, and an apparent minor seated next to him both provided a false date of birth to the trooper.
It was later determined the passenger was under the age of 18 and a runaway from California.
Jordan and the minor were then taken to patrol’s Bowling Green post for further investigation.
According to the criminal complaint, the defendant admitted to possession of child pornography. During a search of his vehicle, 21 electronic devices were seized. An investigation into the defendant’s personal cell phone and electronic devices discovered numerous files containing child pornography, including images of the minor found in the defendant’s vehicle.
If convicted, the defendant’s sentence will be determined by the court after review of factors unique to this case, including the defendant’s prior criminal records, if any, the defendant’s role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violation.
The investigation was also conducted by the U.S. Secret Service.

Toledo man charged
In an unrelated case, a federal grand jury returned a two-count indictment charging Thomas Daniel Johnson, age 34, of Toledo with sexual exploitation of a minor and receipt and distribution of child pornography.
The defendant was believed to have been engaged in the distribution of online child pornography and was attempting to facilitate sexual encounters with a minor who occasionally stayed at his residence.
On Nov. 22, 2019, federal investigators and members of the Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Taskforce executed a search warrant at the defendant’s residence and seized several devices that were later discovered to contain large amounts of child pornography.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Toledo Police Department, as part of a state-federal task force on child exploitation.
