The Gibsonburg girls golf team shot 389 to defeat Archbold (394) and win a Division II sectional championship at Ironwood near Wauseon. It is the team’s third straight sectional title. For the Golden Bears, junior Ellie Stout shot 47-47-94, senior Morgan Albanese shot 47-49-96, senior Taylor Sworden scored 47-50-97, junior Jenna Spanfellner shot 49-53-102 and sophomore Jade Kayser scored 59-60-113.

“Very proud of the team,” said Gibsonburg coach Brent Liskai. “They played a very focused round and are able to compete in the district tournament again. They have done a very good job of staying focused on their game and not on things that are out of their control.”

The Gibsonburg girls will compete in the District Golf Championships at Sycamore Springs Golf Course in Arlington next Monday.

At the SBC Bay Division tournament at Fremont Country Club, the Golden Bears finished second, scoring 404 to finish behind Hopewell-Loudon (388). Gibsonburg scores were Sworden (47-46-93), Albanese (48-47-95), Stout (48-48-96), Spanfellner (52-68-120), Kayser (64-57-121) and Gabby Grove (70-76-146).

At the D-II sectional at Fremont Country Club, Oak Harbor junior Trista Chasteen shot 47-47-94 and freshman Hali Ballard shot 72-67-139, but Chasteen’s score was good enough for her to advance to the district tournament. They were only two Rockets golfing, so Oak Harbor had no team score.

At the SBC Lake Division tournament, Chasteen shot 45-51-96, Sophia Zunk shot 61-61-122 and Ballard shot 82-77-159 for the Rockets.
