Ashland Church holds ‘John 3:16 Day’
Based on the year-long theme of striving to be “the most loving place in town," Ashland Church in Oregon held a “John 3:16 Day” on June 16.
Members of the congregation prayed for the community for 16 minutes while holding signs at the intersection of Starr and Wheeling – one block from the church. The signs read “John 3:16: or “God loves you.”
“Prayer sheets were given with the names of our city's leaders, other area churches, and businesses to pray for,” said Pastor Jeff Cooper.
Cooper preached that morning on John 3:16, asking everyone to come with a sign intending to show God's love to the community.
In addition to signs and prayer, participants offered cookies, “Jesus loves you” wristbands and Bibles to give to people who walked passed.
“Many drivers honked as they passed,” Cooper said. “It was appropriate that it was Father's Day. According to John 3:16, "God (the Father) loved the world so much, that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him, would not perish, but would have everlasting life.”
