Disco Fever raises $18,000 for family center
It was a groovy time in East Toledo on Saturday, April 28 when the East Toledo Family Center held its Disco Fever Gala. Big hair, bellbottoms and wide collared shirts filled the room as guests enjoyed the disco theme. The 15th annual Gala had a crowd of nearly 250 people who support the agency.
Tina Shaerban of WTOL Channel 11 News served as master of ceremonies. She presented Distinguished Citizen Awards to Joe Kochanski and George Marshall, and the Richard Fisher Educator Awards to Michelle Hammond, Jennifer McKarns and Sue Rowe.

Chairpersons Dick and Sandy Fisher were also presented with a Distinguished Citizen Award and the crowd honored them with a standing ovation.
The disco theme was displayed throughout the room and was the creation of Dick and Sandy Fisher, chairpersons of the event. Peace, love and joy posters were hanging around the room along with disco balls that were part of each centerpiece. The dance floor was filled as D.J. Doug Kwiatkowski played all the favorite tunes from the 1970s.
Approximately $18,000 was raised by bidding on the silent auction, buying mystery boxes and signing up on various raffle boards. The proceeds from the event were to benefit the child care department which includes the center’s preschool program, before/after school program and summer child care.
Sponsors were Mercy St. Charles Hospital and Toledo Refining.
