Two area business, Heartland of Oregon and Commodore Perry Federal Credit Union, recently announced building expansions.

Heartland of Oregon has broken ground for a 7,000 square foot expansion and renovation to the existing facility, according to a company spokesperson.

The state-of-the-art center will increase patient care capability from 110 to 125. Heartland offers skilled nursing and rehabilitation including physical, speech, respiratory, recreational and occupational therapy, as well as long-term care.

Heartland’s expansion will transform the current living room area into the new therapy gym and the current therapy gym into a long-term care dining room. Twelve new patient rooms will also be added and feature modern amenities such as flat-screen televisions and adjustable beds. The expected opening date is April 2011.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to expand our facility, and about the opportunities that the expansion will offer our patients,” Megan Fulkerson, Admissions and Marketing Director said. “We continually look for ways to improve patient care and satisfaction. Our patients are coming to us younger and sicker and their needs and desires have changed. We strive to continue to meet these needs and desires, and this is just one way that we do it.”

New therapy equipment will complement the current highly qualified staff’s treatment methods. Heartland of Oregon specializes in pulmonary rehabilitation for people with conditions such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) or emphysema, however, other patients at Heartland are rehabilitating after stroke, joint replacement surgery or cardiac episodes.

“Our addition is designed to provide a unique opportunity to patients recovering after a hospital stay. Once a patient is beyond the acute hospital care needs, we can provide the medical management and rehabilitation they need to get back on their feet in an environment that is pleasant and has the amenities they need to help their recovery process.”

Heartland of Oregon is part of the HCR ManorCare network of more than 500 skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers, assisted living facilities, outpatient rehabilitation clinics, and hospice and home health care agencies. These locations operate primarily under the respected Heartland, ManorCare Health Services and Arden Courts names.

Heartland of Oregon is located at 3953 Navarre Avenue.

Commodore Perry Federal Credit Union broke ground on a 1,700 square foot expansion of its Oak Harbor office, according to Michael Barr, CEO.

Barr told The Press the expansion will accommodate the move of company headquarters from Port Clinton and

expand services offered in Oak Harbor. Barr said the credit union board was faced with renovating one or both buildings and chose the Oak Harbor location for the $1.1 million renovation. Four to five employees will make the move to Oak Harbor and the Port Clinton office will stay open. Total employment in Oak Harbor will be 8 to 9.

When completed in early 2011, the new office will offer an ATM machine, a two-lane drive-through and self-service safety deposit boxes, which will located in the lobby and will not require a bank employee’s assistance.

“In today’s economy, you hear too often about bank failures and closures. We’re proud to be committing to a long-term investment in our community,” Barr stated.

The credit union is located at 1016 So. S.R. 19.
