Kevin and Deb Kirk have opened The Country Mercantile, a Pemberville store specializing in handcrafted goods for home décor in the Country Primitive style.
The store features work from at least 10 local crafters. Items include stained glass, quilts, candles, laser-cut steel signs, handmade toys, crocheted and braided rugs and furniture.
The Kirks for 19 years have been giving antique furniture a second life by painting, distressing and finishing it. They have regularly traveled throughout Ohio to sell their work at craft fairs. By opening the shop, they hope to, as Deb says, “bring people to us instead of going out to people.”
The Kirks are Woodville residents. Deb graduated from Clay High School and Kevin from Penta.
The store is located at 118 E. Front Street, next to the fire station. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 to 5:00 with extended hours during the village’s Cruise-In classic car shows held the first Thursday on each month during the season. The phone is 419-287-7038.
