Bay Park Community Hospital has named Maurine (Zsigrai) Weis vice president of patient care services/CNO.

Her primary responsibilities include strategic development and operational oversight of patient care areas including: surgical services, emergency center, medical/surgical units, critical care units, labor/delivery, pharmacy, and respiratory therapy.

Weis has been in health care for more than 28 years, the last seven as director of perioperative services at Flower Hospital. A native of Oregon she also serves as a faculty member in the school of nursing at Lourdes College.

She earned her bachelor of science in nursing from The University of Toledo, and her master’s degree of science in nursing from the University of Phoenix. Weis replaces Jeanne Drouillard, who was appointed vice president of patient care services/CNO at Flower Hospital.

The right thing
The St. Charles Mercy Health Foundation is seeking sponsors for its annual Crystal Ball to be held Saturday, March 21 at th4e Hilton Garden Inn at Levis Commons.

Proceeds go to enhance the quality of care at St. Charles. Last year, the event raised $95,000 and was used to upgrade and renovate waiting room areas. In the past, funds have been used to upgrade equipment in the respiratory department, emergency center and Center for Family Beginnings. 419-696-6245.

Gold stars
Bay Park Community Hospital has achieved three-year accreditation and earned the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission following a three-day survey on October 8, 9 and 10.

An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission accredits and certifies more than 15,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States.  Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards.

The Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting and dinner Thursday, January 22, 6:00 pm at the Community Market VFW Hall. Entertainment will be provided by Kevin Cullen and chalk artist James Andrews. 419-898-0479
