His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (four bronze stars), Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 device, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (two) and Combat Infantry Badge.

Sorg opened the regularly scheduled meeting for the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners by leading the Pledge of Allegiance, after which he was honored with a plaque presented by Jo Ellen Regal, Ottawa County Commissioners’ president.

Sorg’s wife, Dianne; his mother. Bobbie and son, John were on hand for the presentation. “It was an honor for me to present the proclamation to Bill and to recognize his bravery, his sacrifices he made, and to thank him for his service to our country,” Regal said.

The County Commissioners recognize a veteran within the Ottawa County community the first or second Tuesday meeting of every month.

In February, a veteran from the American Legion Post 324, Genoa will be honored.
