Officers elected
WSOS Community Action Commission, Inc., recently elected officers for 2009.

Re-elected were President Mel Browning of Wood County, Vice President Paul Harrison of Seneca County and Secretary/Treasurer Pam Kindle of Sandusky County.

Elected as at-large members of the Executive Committee were Bobbie Lane of Wood County, Rev. Charlotte Evans of Sandusky County, Beverly Hemmerly-Lake of Seneca County and Jennifer Buxton of Ottawa County.

Members of the Waite High School class of 1964 will hold their 45th reunion Aug. 8 at Oak Shade Grove in Oregon.

Riders Unlimited, Inc., a local nonprofit equine assisted activities and therapies program, held their Annual Riders and Volunteer Recognition Dinner Jan. 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fremont.

Award winners included Bobbe Povolny, Elmore, Program Director’s Award: Lisa Wilson, of Clyde, Companionship Award; and Kylie Mullins, of Walbridge, Sportsmanship Award.

Benefit breakfast
Grace Lutheran Church in Elmore will hold a benefit breakfast for Sam Cappozziello, a 25-year old local man who is battling cancer, Feb. 7 from 7 to 10 a.m.

Though Cappozziello’s prognosis is now improving, his medical costs keep mounting, breakfast organizers say.

The menu will include Tank’s sausage and bacon, scrambled eggs, juice, milk, coffee and all the pancakes one can eat. A donation of $3 per person is requested, although larger gifts will be gratefully accepted. Thrivent Financial for Lutheran will provide matching funds.

Shining Star
Nominations are being sought from the community for the Toledo Association for the Education of Young Children’s “Shining Star” award, presented to dedicated professionals who provide quality early learning experiences for young children.

Co-workers, parents, professionals and others are invited to submit a one-page typed letter explaining why a person working with children from birth to 8 years is a “Shining Star.” Honorees are selected in a variety of categories including Special Education, Administration, Kindergarten through Third-Grade teachers and Home Care Providers. An official nomination form with details for submission can be found at www.toledoaeyc.org. The nomination deadline is March 6. All nominees and winners will be honored at a special Shining Star evening in early May.
