Pastor welcomed
Genoa Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has welcomed Rev. Jeanne M. Davies as pastor of its congregation. Pastor Jeanne was previously an associate pastor at Christ Community Church in Genoa.

Sunday services are held at 10 a.m. Genoa Christian Church is located at 415 Main St.


Golden Years Luncheon
The annual Waite Golden Years Luncheon for alumni who have celebrated their 50th year reunions (1914-1959) will be held Sept. 15 at St. George’s Banquet Hall, 740 Glenwood Rd., Rossford.

40th reunion set
Clay High School class of 1969 will hold a 40th reunion Sept. 25-26.

On Friday, the classmates will attend the Homecoming football game followed by post-game socializing at Icebreakers Lounge at Maumee Bay State Park.  On Saturday, the alumni are invited to the annual Clay High School “Groove in the Grove” alumni event at Oak Shade Grove.

Shining in New York
Patrick Perlaky, of Oregon, was among 12 Toledo Ohio area actors, models, singers and dancers who brought home over 50 awards from the semi-annual International Modeling and Talent Association’s (IMTA) event held in New York, NY during the week of July 19.

IMTA is an organization comprised of leading modeling and talent training centers engaged in the professional promotion of the fashion and talent industry. More then 400 top fashion and talent agents, casting directors and industry professionals participated as judges and scouts in the weeklong international event.

Seventeen-year-old Perlaky earned honors as the male “Junior Actor of the Year” and in the “TV Real People” Category.

Also attending were Samone Dudley, Kennedi Jones, Matias Ponce, Nicole Raven and Patrick Raven, of Toledo.

Of the 56 graduates – a record number at that time – 20 are still living. Fifteen class members and six guests attended the reunion.

Of the 20 surviving members, 15 live within a half-hour drive of Genoa. “It’s like the old adage – the nuts don’t fall far from the tree,” said reunion chairman Jack Werner. The only long-distance attendees were Jim Evans and his wife, Millie Verkin Evans, from Fairfax, Va.
 

 
From canvas to blanket

Laurene Giesler, of Elmore, recently created at beautiful piece of artwork for the Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District.

 

The district took that artwork one step further and commissioned the creation of cotton throws.

Judging held
On July 20, poultry judging was held at the Ottawa County Fair.

In the Market Turkey Class, fourth place went to 13-year-old Ashleigh Blausey, of Elmore. Tyler Gardner, 16, took third place with his Market Turkey. Reserve champion went to 14-year-old Katy Avers, of Elmore. Katy’s older brother Zak took Grand Champion with his Market Turkey. Ashleigh, Tyler, Katy, and Zak are all in the Country Crew 4-H club.

In the Fancy Bantam class, Jonny Braun took third place. Jonny, 13, is in the Oak Harbor Clover Crew. He has been showing Fancy Bantams for three years. Grand Champion went to Kelsey Chambers, who also took second in the Broiler class. Kelsey, who will be a senior this year, is in the Oak Harbor Clover Crew.
