2012 Spirit of Wood County Award winners
The 2012 Spirit of Wood County award recipients will be honored June 10 at 2 p.m. at a presentation being held in conjunction with the annual Wood County BBQ and Heritage Days.
Recipients include Bill Hirzel (Agricultural Leadership); Gary Spencer (Liberty Through Law/Human Freedom); Hugh Caumartin (Education for Civic Responsibility); Pat Bacon (Self Government); George Thompson (Lyle R. Fletcher Good Citizenship) and Alvie Perkins (Special Spirit of Wood County Award).
The BBQ and Heritage Days will be held June 9 and 10 at the Wood County Historical Center & Museum, 13660 County Home Rd., Bowling Green.
Visit www.woodcountyhistory.org for more information about the festival, which kicks off Saturday with a hog roast and an old-fashioned barn dance with square, round, & line dancing. Saturday and Sunday will be filled with events for the entire family, including a tractor show and parade, kids' crafts, live animals, music and many local food vendors. Visitors will also be able to see the working oil derrick and blacksmith shop.
On Sunday, there will be a chicken and pork chop BBQ fundraiser for the Historical Society from 11 a.m. until sold out.
20 Under 40
Sponsors of the 20 Under 40 Leadership Recognition Program are accepting nominations for the 17th annual event, which showcases young, dynamic leaders in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.
The 20 Under 40 program focuses on individuals who have distinguished themselves in their careers and/or in the community
Nominations are due by June 15. To be eligible, candidates must be under 40 years of age by June 30. Forms are available in the June issue of The Toledo Business Journal and on-line at www.20under40toledo.com.
Nominees are asked to complete a profile to include information on career, achievements and community involvement. An independent panel of judges selects 20 candidates for recognition.
The recognition program will be held Sept. 27 at Fifth Third Center at One SeaGate, Toledo.
