The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft has named Dave Goodwin, of Woodville, the 2008 Watercraft Officer of the Year.
Goodwin is a watercraft officer specialist assigned to the Sandusky area office and previously was assigned to the Division's Maumee Bay office. He was recognized for his work as a state watercraft officer patrolling the western basin of Lake Erie and assisting local community organizations in support of their boating safety education programs.
Goodwin also had among the highest number of drunken boating arrests this year and was among a number of Ohio law enforcement officers who received the Top Cop Award in 2008 and 2007 from Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
A graduate of Gahanna Lincoln High School in central Ohio, Goodwin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in parks administration at The Ohio State University. He went on to complete the Ohio Peace Officer Training Program in 1999 at Cuyahoga Community College. Goodwin joined ODNR in 1999 as an intern at Alum Creek State Park and became a state watercraft officer in 2000.
