Shousher honored Lucas County Commissioners recently inducted Yehia (John) Shousher to the Lucas County Wall of Friends.
Shousher was the first president of the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo and founded the Multifaith Habitat for Humanity, the United Muslim Association of Toledo (UMAT), the Muslim Food Bank, the Arab Anti-Discrimination League and Erase the Hate.
He is also a founding member of Toledo Sister Cities International and the Great Lakes Consortium for International Development.
The commissioners noted that Shousher has spent his life bettering Northwest Ohio by increasing awareness of the Arab and Muslim community while reaching out to find common ground with other ethnic communities in Lucas County.
The Lucas County Wall of Friends, located in the Commissioners’ Chambers in One Government Center, honors community leaders who have impacted the lives of Lucas County residents in an extraordinary way.
Shousher is the 14th inductee to the Wall of Friends.
