Chaplain Maj. Bowlus to speak Chaplain Maj. Dave Bowlus will be the featured speaker at the Pemberville American Legion’s Memorial Day Service.
A parade will begin at the town hall at 9 a.m. The Memorial Day service will begin at 10 a.m. in the Legion Hall. A chicken barbecue will follow.
Maj. Bowlus, the son of Dr. Tom and Marilyn Bowlus, of Pemberville, graduated from Eastwood High School in 1989 and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1993. He served for five years as an Armor Officer, then resigned active duty to attend seminary. After Sept. 11, 2011, he felt called to return to the U.S. Army as a chaplain. Since then, he has served as chaplain to the 1st Ranger Battalion and was deployed six times to combat areas. He later returned to Ranger regiment and served as regimental chaplain, where he was deployed twice to Afghanistan as the Joint Special Operations Task Force Chaplain.
He is currently an instructor at the U.S. Army Chaplain Center, Ft. Jackson, S.C.
