10th anniversary A perfect September afternoon, enhanced by the beauty of the Schedel Arboretum and Gardens in Elmore, provided the celebrants at the Ottawa County Community Foundation’s 10th anniversary a memorable day.
About 100 residents from all over the county enjoyed a newly produced video about the Foundation's history, programs and accomplishments.
Guests strolled among the 17 acres admiring the flowerbeds, trees and shrubs, a Japanese garden and sculptures located throughout the gardens.
Many took a garden tour narrated by Elaine Mylander, while others enjoyed a butterfly tour conducted by Robert Michael Pyle from Grays River, Wash., and a bird walk led by Kenn Kaufman.
Jazz music performed by Michael Shirtz’s Quintet and also a group of his students from Terra Community College in the Trellis Gallery provided entertainment.
The foundation awarded grants totaling nearly $30,000 this year. In addition, more than 35 scholarships were awarded to area high school seniors.
