The 21st Annual “Chick” Schaffner Memorial Charity Golf Classic will be held June 21 at the Catawba Island Club’s new Arthur Hills-designed golf course.

Proceeds from the classic will benefit Stein Hospice, a community-based not-for-profit hospice serving six counties, and the American Heart Association’s Ottawa County Heart Fund.

John Schaffner, publisher of The Beacon, started the event in honor of his late father, an avid golfer and retired vice president of Brush Beryllium Co., who died from a heart attack in 1971. Sponsors for the event include Shaffner Publications, Inc., Brush Wellman Engineered Materials, Catawba Island Club and Magruder Hospital.

Shotgun for the four-man scramble starts at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., with registration an hour before. The entry fee of $125 per player and $500 per foursome, includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, continental breakfast, lunch and dinner.
