John “Jack” Frederick Werner is seeking persons whose grandfather fought in the Civil War, with the hopes of compiling their recollections.
Werner’s grandfather, Frederic Werner (1840-1920), was born in Genoa 28 years before the village was incorporated. He fought in the Union Army and was 25 years old when the Civil War ended. He later married, and became the father of three sons, the youngest of whom was Jack’s father. “My father was born in Genoa in the brick house that still stands on the southeast corner of West and 3rd streets, diagonally across from the American Legion cabin,” Werner said.
Werner may be contacted by calling 419-855-3763.
