Ronald Hunt, former Ohio State Director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Mission Area, has joined WSOS’s Rural Community Assistance Program (RCAP) as the director for Ohio RCAP.

Ohio RCAP is part of the national RCAP Inc., a team of technical assistance providers who assist small communities with environmental infrastructure needs.

WSOS Community Action Commission, Inc., administers the RCAP program, which operates in seven states, including Ohio.

Prior to joining USDA, Hunt served as the executive director of the Ohio Rural Development Partnership, a statewide organization that coordinates rural development initiatives in Ohio. He also served as the assistant director and director of the Governor’s Office of Appalachia.

Horizon Award
Lucas County Auditor Anita Lopez has announced that the Weights and Measures Department has received the 2009 New Horizon Award for innovative accomplishments within their field.

The award was established by the Ohio Weights and Measures Association to recognize local weights and measures programs for their dedication and new innovations brought to their jurisdictions.

Lucas County was recognized for the addition of a Consumer Hotline on gas pump stickers that offers a way for consumers to report any discrepancies at the pump, and for being the first in the state to adopt a wireless inspection system, which interfaces with scales and allows results to be e-mailed directly to the business.
