Books donated by SWCD
The Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District recently donated five children’s books dealing with natural resources to the Oak Harbor Public Library.

Board representatives Rich Thorbahn and Jerry Whipple presented the books to director Pam Hoesman. The books were received during the “Back to School” book drive sponsored by the Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation District this summer.


Wurst event a success
“Happy New Year” was heard in and around Elmore late on Dec. 31 as Tank’s halogen-lit sausage dropped at midnight and the 2009 sign announced the New Year. Among those ringing in 2009 were folks from Las Vegas, Wauseon, Wellington and Archbold, as well as many local folks.

Winners of the “Dress the Dog Contest” included Elizabeth Koenig, Elmore, “Beach Dog,” first place; Kanna and Lukas Sasscer, Elmore , “Red White & Brew,” second place; Evan Palmer, Bettsville, “Hulk Hogan,” third place.

Sausage-Eating Contest winners included, Michael Bartley, Las Vegas, Nev., first place; Nate Eastering, Genoa, second place; John Allgood, Woodville, third place.

Sausage Toss Contest winners were Tanner Worosher and Erin Monday, Wauseon, first place; Kyle Linden and Alex Shaver, Wellington, second place; Dave DeChant, Cleveland and Brian Koenig, Elmore, third place.

The Elmore Historical Society and Tank’s organized the “Wurst Event of the Year.”

The historical society’s next meeting will be held Jan..18 at the Barn/Museum.
