Genoa band invites alumni
All former Genoa High School Band members are invited to take the field at the Homecoming Game against Lake High School Friday, Sept. 21.
Those interested in participating in the Alumni Band are encouraged to wear maroon and grey and meet at 5:45 p.m. outside the band room and march to Comet Stadium with the high school band.
The alumni will take the field at pregame to play “Carmen Ohio,” the school’s alma mater; “Harvardiana,” the school song, “Across the Field,” the fight song and “Hang on Sloopy” alongside the band. They are also invited to play in the stands with the marching band during the game. Music will be available Friday night. Instruments will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
A time to practice will be available Sept. 17, from 7:15 to 8 p.m. at the high school.
For more information, email Briann Edwards, band director, at firstname.lastname@example.org or call him at the school at 419-855-7741, ext. 23117.
Park expanded, updated
The Village of Clay Center has updated its park.
Working with Shelly Materials, the village has acquired five acres to add to the north side of the park. The area has been seeded and trees have been planted. The field, which is currently being used for soccer, is open to the public.
On the west side of the park, a regulation sand volleyball pit has been added. In addition, new parking areas with handicapped spaces have been installed to eliminate the need for parking in the grassy areas of the park.
Future plans for the park include a walking trail around the perimeter of the park and additional athletic fields to the west side of the park.
