Volunteers needed
Serenity Farms is adding volunteers for the ever-popular Pet Paws program.

Those who have a few hours each month and a great dog are invited to volunteer for the program, which has been offering services to the community since 2001. Services are offered Monday through Friday during daylight hours. Serenity Farms offers AKC testing, and collaborates with Toledo Therapy Dog Association for training purposes. Thinking ahead
The Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank has received a $5,000 donation from Charter One for the 2009 Operation Turkey/Carving Out Hunger program.

Operation Turkey began in 2003 when the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank, Inc. asked the community for help to provide turkeys to community residents in need. Bluegrass concert
The Glass City Opry will present a special concert by national touring bluegrass band Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out June 16 at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

Led by the International Bluegrass Music Association’s (IBMA) two-time Male Vocalist Of The Year Russell Moore, IIIrd Tyme Out includes Steve Dilling on the banjo, Justen Haynes on the fiddle, Wayne Benson on the mandolin and Edgar Loudermilk on bass. The band has walked away with IBMA’s Vocal Group Of The Year award seven consecutive years.

Concert rescheduled
The David Cook concert, originally scheduled for May 6 at Owens Community College, will be held Aug. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the college’s student Health and Activities Center.

Marijuana seized
Agents from the Ottawa County Drug Task Force and an Ottawa County Sheriffs deputy on May 13 seized 105 marijuana plants in Portage Township after receiving an anonymous tip about the location of an outdoor marijuana plot.

The plot was located near State Road and the State Route 2 overpass. The plants were in the early growth stages and were protected by wire mesh. The estimated seizure amount is $1,000 per plant.
