Rembrandt lecture
Professor Ernst van de Wetering, of Amsterdam, will discuss the authentication process for Rembrandt Laughing, a painting currently on display at the Toledo Museum of Art, March 3 at 7 p.m. in the museum’s Peristyle.

Acclaimed as one of the most exciting artistic discoveries in recent years, Rembrandt Laughing came to light in 2007. Currently on loan to the TMA from a private collection courtesy of Hazlitt Gooden & Fox, London, the painting is on display in Gallery 24 until May 1.

Professor van de Wetering lectures widely on Rembrandt, on historic studio practice as well as in the field of theory and ethics of conservation and restoration. The free lecture is made possible through the generosity of members of the Toledo Museum of Art and supported in part through the sustainable grant program of the Ohio Arts Council.

“Transported Landscapes”
Owens Community College invites area residents to experience the interconnectedness between art and the environment at artist Vaughn Bell’s exhibit “Transported Landscapes,” on display at the Walter E. Terhune Art Gallery through March 29.  The gallery is located in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts.

Bell is known worldwide for her creation of interactive projects and immersive environments that deal with how society relates to the environment. She has exhibited her sculpture, installation, performance video and public projects internationally, including commissions for the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art and the Edith Russ Site for New Media Art in Odenburg, Germany.

Both soybean and corn seed, which are incorporated into the exhibit, have been donated by the Bowling Green store location of Mid-Wood Inc., an agricultural grain and supply cooperative that is owned and controlled by the members its serves. During the spring season, an expanded version of “Transported Landscapes” will be unveiled in the courtyard adjacent to the Center for Fine and Performing Arts.

Indictments returned
Two Oak Harbor residents were among those indicted after a recent session of the Ottawa County Grand Jury.

Chase R. Smith, 21, 20775 W. SR 579, Oak Harbor, has been charged with felony counts of Possession of Drugs and Cultivation of Marihuana, along with misdemeanor charges of Possession of Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia. According to reports of the Ottawa County Drug Task Force, drugs, drug paraphernalia and marihuana plants were found at Smith’s residence during two separate searches.

Joe L. Allen, 36, 427 W. Water St., Oak Harbor, has been indicted on one count of Possessing a Weapon While Under Disability, a felony of the third degree, after Ohio Highway Patrol troopers found a loaded firearm in his vehicle last February. Allen’s prior conviction for a drug offense precludes him from carrying a firearm.

An indictment is merely a formal charge in the Common Pleas Court and does not denote guilt or innocence, Prosecuting Attorney Mark Mulligan noted.
