A fundraiser to benefit Tom Bulone, who is undergoing stem cell transplant, will be held Feb. 27 from noon to 5 p.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church, White Street in East Toledo.
The dinner will include hot dog and chili (or chili mac), garlic bread, dessert and beverage. Carryouts will be available.
The event will also include 50/50 raffles, a bake sale and raffles for various prizes (winner need not be present).
The requested donation is $7 for adults and $4 for children 3-12. Children 2 and under are free. Tickets are available through St. Thomas by calling 419-698-1519 or at the door.
Auto Tour open
Visitors are invited to drive through seven miles of the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge that are normally closed to the public during an auto tour Feb. 19 between 9 and 4 p.m., weather permitting.
Self-guided tour brochures detailing the well-marked route will be available at the route entrance. The Visitor’s Center offers hands-on exhibits and a short film about the natural and cultural history of the Lake Erie marsh ecosystem and the Great Black Swamp.

Fatherhood Town Hall
Lucas County Children Services (LCCS) and its Diversity Advisory Committee will present, “Fatherhood Town Hall III: Bringing Back the Dads,” Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. at Living Word Ministries, 2030 Putnam St., Toledo.
“We are building momentum in our community, helping our fathers to step up and become more involved in their children's lives,” said Marjorie Holt, Ph.D., LCCS Minority Affairs and Inclusion Coordinator.
A panel of local clergy will speak on the importance of fathers in the lives of their children, and several fathers will talk about their experiences. Representatives from the community who serve fathers will be in attendance to respond to questions.

“Of Mice and Men”
Oregon Community Theatre will present John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men” Feb. 18 19, 25 and 26 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 20 at 3 p.m. at Fassett Auditorium, 3025 Starr Ave., Oregon.
The show, which directed by Devin Bader and produced by Cheryl Cuprys, contains adult language.

Relay for Life meeting
The 2011 Relay for Life of Ottawa County will be held June 3 and 4 at the Oak Harbor High School.
All team captains and members are invited to a Team Captain University and Open House at Terra Community College Feb. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Building B, rooms 101 and 102.
The meeting, intended for both Sandusky and Ottawa county relay teams, will address how to get involved and raise money for cancer research.

Volunteers needed
Kids Against Hunger and the Lutheran Compassion Relief Team are seeking volunteers for the Guatemala Food Build that will be held Feb. 19 in the Fellowship Hall at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 112 E. Wayne St., Maumee.
More than 100 volunteers are needed to work in assembly line fashion to put together 40,000 meals to benefit the Kids Against Hunger initiative.
Volunteers of all ages from 3 to 83 and older are needed to work from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thrivent will provide coffee, snacks, pizza and beverages. Lunch will also be provided.

Board vacancy
The Lucas County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants for the Toledo/Lucas County Commission on Disabilities for two-year terms that will expire Feb. 28, 2013.
The 21-member commission is comprised of a coalition of individuals with disabilities as well as others interested in representing the disabled community.
Applicants must fill out an “Application for Public Volunteer” form, which must be submitted with a detailed resume by the end of business Feb. 25.

Diversity lecture
Area residents interested in gaining insight on diversity and its impact on a global society are invited to a free lecture featuring nationally-known sociological expert Dr. Richard Schaefer at Owens Community College Feb. 15. Sponsored by the college’s Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Schaefer’s lecture presentation, titled “The Implications of Cultural and Ethnic Diversity in a Global Era,” will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts Mainstage Theatre on the Toledo-area campus in Perrysburg Township.

Umpire training
The Independent Umpire Association will hold an eight-week training class for anyone interested in umpiring in Oregon this year.
Classes will begin Sundays beginning Feb. 13. Participation is open to anyone age 16 and older with some knowledge of baseball and/or softball.
All applicants will be required to submit an application, pass a written pre-test and attend the first three weeks of class. After the third week, instructors will invite those that qualify to move forward for the remaining five weeks.
