Penta construction project Penta Career Center is currently accepting applications/plans for the Construction Trades project house for the 2011/2012 school year.
Each year, high school students in Penta’s Construction Trades programs build a house as part of their career-technical training. The students begin construction at the start of the school year and complete their work at the end of the school year.
Potential home construction projects must be located within a 10 to 15 minute driving distance of the Penta campus and the project must be located within one of Penta’s member school districts. Homeowners realize substantial cost savings. Since 1966, Penta has constructed 79 homes in the surrounding communities.

Homeless to be counted A point in time (PIT) count of the number of homeless residents in Wood, Sandusky, Ottawa, and Seneca counties will be conducted Jan. 25.
The count provides a single-day snapshot of homelessness across the state. Locally, WSOS will participate in the count by documenting the number of homeless people in its four-county service area.
“We will count those who fall under the following categories: staying in emergency shelter, transitional housing for homeless, a hotel or motel paid for by a public or private entity in lieu of shelter, or places not meant for human habitation such as streets, campgrounds, abandoned buildings, etc.,” said Ragan Claypool, supportive services coordinator at WSOS.
This count is completed annually by organizations that received funding to serve the homeless. It is a requirement of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which requires regularly occurring counts of sheltered and unsheltered homeless persons for communities interested in applying for McKinney-Vento funding through the Continuum of Care (CoC) application process.
WSOS will work with volunteers from the local Homeless Coalition members to conduct the count.
The count in Ohio is facilitated by the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio (COHHIO), and it is conducted statewide on the same day for the same time period.
The count also includes groups referred to as sub-populations of the homeless. These groups include those who are severely mentally ill, veterans, persons with HIV/AIDS, unaccompanied youth and chronically homeless.
WSOS administers grants that aid individuals and families who find themselves homeless, however, the number of people who request assistance annually far outweighs the funding WSOS receives.
For information on the homeless programs operated by WSOS, call Ragan Claypool or Ann Hanko at 419-334-8911, visit www.wsos.org or e-mail
