Thanksgiving dinner Once again this year, local churches, civic organizations, businesses, school groups, and private citizens of the greater Elmore area are collaborating again this year to prepare a free Thanksgiving Dinner to serve Elmore and neighboring areas Nov. 25, Thanksgiving Day, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Woodmore High School cafeteria, 633 Fremont St., Elmore.
The event was originally planned to support families and individuals who were unable to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving dinner because of financial limitations, as the unemployment rate in Ottawa County was nearing 17 percent a year ago.
The planning group learned was there are many people who just want to gather, much like the original Thanksgiving, as a community to celebrate the day with a feast and a grateful heart, according to Tom Willhardt, pastor at Elmore Church of God.
Everyone living within 10 miles of Elmore (give or take) is welcome to attend. The menu will include turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green beans, rolls, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls and homemade pumpkin pie.
Those who are able are asked to bring in a canned good for the local food pantries or a new, unwrapped toy to support Toys for Tots.
Anyone who would like to donate his or her time for the event may contact Robin Hindall at
