Tax bills due
Lucas County Treasurer Wade Kapszukiewicz offers taxpayers a reminder that the due date for the first half 2008 real estate tax collection is Feb. 1, 2010.

Real estate bills must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service by Feb. 1 to avoid penalty and interest. First-half taxes are normally due Jan. 31 each year, however, because that date falls on a Sunday this year, the treasurer has moved the due date to Feb. 1.

Taxes may be paid in person at the Lucas County Treasurer’s office, located on the fifth floor of One Government Center, or at local branches of Huntington Bank, Sky Bank, Fifth Third Bank, Key Bank, First Federal Bank, Exchange Bank, AP Federal Credit Union and Genoa Banking Center. National City Bank will not be accepting payments at any of their branches. For payments made at local bank branches, taxpayers must bring their tax bills and pay in full.

The Lucas county Treasurer’s office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Payments may be made with cash, personal check, certified check or money order.

Credit card payments may be made by phone through Official Payments Corp. (1-888-272-9829) or through the treasurer’s Web site at www.co.lucas.oh.us/treasurer. Official Payments Corp. assesses a 2.5 percent fee for payments made by credit card and $3 for those made by electronic check.
