model trains are in tip-top shape before packing them away for the season.

The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center will hold its annual Model Train Clinic Jan. 9 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Hayes Museum.

Members of the Great Lakes Division of the Train Collectors Association will lead the clinic. The model-railroad enthusiasts can assist with advice related to model train maintenance and repair, as well as estimating the value of older model trains. They also share insights on the creation of the Hayes Train Special. A holiday tradition at the Hayes Presidential Center, this 12x24-foot display features eight model trains running a course through mountain tunnels, around lakes and near a Victorian village blanketed in snow.

Members of the Train Collectors Association have designed and constructed the interactive exhibit for the past 16 years. Model Train Clinic attendees who own G-, O- or standard-gauge trains can have their models run on the layout during the clinic.

Admission to the Hayes Model Train Clinic is $2 per person, or free with the purchase of a Hayes Museum ticket. In the event of inclement weather, the clinic will be canceled.

For information, call 800-998-PRES. The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center is located at the corner of Hayes and Buckland avenues in Fremont. Visit www.rbhayes.org for updates concerning events.
