Genoa Area High School will have an open house Aug. 27 from 6-7:30 p.m. The public is invited.
Vet appreciation day
A Vietnam Veterans Appreciation Day will be held Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. at Cousino’s Steakhouse, 1842 Woodville Rd.
New officers of the Greater Toledo chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America will be recognized. Jerry Eversman, an associate member, said the event will also be an opportunity for the community to thank those who served.

New theatre season
The Genoa Civic Theatre will open its season with “Evil Doings at Queen Toot’s Tomb.” Auditions will be held Aug 16, from 4-7 p.m. and Aug. 17 from 6-8 p.m. at the theatre, 509 ½ Main Street.
There are roles for six males and 10 females. Production dates are Nov. 6-15.

The Salvation Army is participating in a Tools for School promotion sponsored by the Charter One Foundation to provide school supplies for students in grades one through eight.
East Toledo residents who meet the income guidelines must apply at the Salvation Army Citadel, 752 Main Street.
Registration will be held Aug. 10-14 from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.
Photo identification, Social Security cards, and birth certificates, proof of income and address are required to register.
Donated school supplies will be accepted until Aug. 14 at The Andersons, Charter One branch banks, and Office Max stores.

Moment with mayor
Northwood Mayor Mark Stoner will hold “A moment with the mayor” on Wednesday, Aug. 12, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Brentwood Park Shelter House, 320 Brentwood Drive.
Northwood residents will have the opportunity to voice their concerns, offer suggestions on city matters, or just say hello to Stoner. Residents can meet individually with Stoner on a first come first serve basis. Residents requesting a specific meeting time area asked to call Sandra K. Perry, secretary to Stoner, at 419-693-9320 between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Early Vote Center
The Lucas County Board of Elections will be opening their 2009 Early Vote Center on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 653 Miami Street, next to the Locke Branch Toledo Library.
Voters can begin early absentee voting for the Toledo and Oregon primary elections at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11. The Early Vote Center will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. They will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7th, for Labor Day, but will be open for voting on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and from Noon until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13.

A special service and potluck set for Well Park in Elmore has been moved to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 19225 Witty Road, Elmore.
The Cake Walkin’ Jass Band will perform a Dixieland-style worship service Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. A potluck will follow.
