After Prom fundraiser
A fundraiser is currently under way to benefit the Lake High School After Prom, a drug- and alcohol-free event, as well as other drug awareness programs at Lake.

Calls will be placed to families in the Lake community Monday through Thursday evenings between 4 and 9 p.m. offering the opportunity to buy gourmet pizzas; gourmet coffee samplers, chocolate chunk, sugar and oatmeal raisin cookie dough; Swiss tool

flashlights; mason jar candles, Foodie Cards and durable, environmentally-friendly trash bags.

All products are guaranteed and will be delivered to your home with free delivery and no tipping.

Free tax help
Free tax preparation services are available at Owens Community College through April 15.

The services are being offered through the Owens Community College Institute of Management Accountants student group, in partnership with United Way of Greater Toledo and the Office of Service Learning.

Appointments are required. Interested individuals may schedule an appointment by calling the United Way at 2-1-1. Assistance is offered in College Hall, 30335 Oregon Rd., Perrysburg.

Free zoo admission
To thank Lucas County voters for their ongoing levy support, the Toledo Zoo is offering free admission to county residents throughout President’s Day weekend, from 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 through 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17. Valid proof of residency is required.

In addition, Lucas County visitors will receive coupons to use throughout the weekend, plus an additional coupon for another zoo visit in April.

Volunteer opportunity
The Migratory Bird Center in Magee Marsh in Oak Harbor is seeking individuals who enjoy nature, wildlife, and helping people of all ages to become volunteers.

The Friends of Magee Marsh will be sponsoring many special events throughout the year and are in need of volunteers to assist with these events.

Volunteers help with a variety of activities including scheduled programs and events, working in the garden, answering visitors’ questions, assisting in the store and other duties.  Volunteers are needed March through November and are asked to work a minimum of one six-hour day a month, but most work longer, especially during the wildlife area’s busy month in May.

“Willows” at Otterbein
Otterbein-Portage Valley Executive Chef Reggie Hall and his staff will present a dining experience reminiscent of the former Willows in Toledo Thursday, Feb. 13 from 5-8 p.m.

Chef Reggie and staff are planning an array of menu choices presented in a leisurely, hospitable atmosphere like that created a half-century ago by the Skaff family.

Senior “Love Letters”
Wood County Committee on Aging, Inc. (WCCOA) will participate in the Meals on Wheels Association’s “Love Letters” program this Valentine’s Day.

Tens of thousands of youth volunteers nation-wide are busy creating hand-crafted Valentine’s Day cards for older homebound individuals. Youth from around the Northwest Ohio area will create Valentine’s Day

"Love Letters” which will be given out on Valentine’s Day to older homebound individuals in Wood County who receive home-delivered meals through the Wood County Committee on Aging.

“This is a great opportunity for our young people to show their appreciation for the older generation,” said Angie Bradford, Director of Food Service at the Wood County Committee on Aging. “The ‘Love Letters’ will mean so much to the homebound individuals.”

College Goal Sunday
Terra State Community College will host the state-wide college financial aid event “College Goal Sunday” (CGS) Feb. 9 at 2 p.m.

The free event, presented by the Ohio Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (OASFAA) and endorsed by the Ohio Board of Regents, assists students and parents with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The federal application is required to receive federal financial aid including the Federal Pell Grant and student loans as well as the need-based state grants.

Hayes lecture set
The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center will present “The Other Leaders in the White House: First Ladies from Lucy Hayes to Michelle Obama,” Sunday, Feb. 16 in the Hayes Museum.

The lecture will be presented by Allida M. Black, Ph.D., research professor of history at the George Washington University and editor.

Admission is $30, which includes a reception and dinner with the speaker, followed by the lecture. Admission to the lecture only is $10. Reservations are required. RSVP by Feb. 12 to 419-2081.

Chili, soup, dessert cook-off
A Chili & Soup Cook-Off to benefit Lake Township Parks will be held Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Lake Township Administration Building, 27975 Cummings Rd. (corner of SR 795 and Cummings Rd.).

Entrants should submit their favorite chili or soup recipe in an 8-quart slow cooker or electric roaster. New this year will be a dessert cook-off. Entries should be pre-cut into bite-size pieces.

Registration will begin at noon. Judging will commence at 1 p.m. Public tasting (for donation) will be held at 1:30 p.m.

Awards will be presented in various categories, including People’s Choice and Judge’s Choice for soup, chili and desserts; Savory Soup and Business.

Equine Valentine raffle
A raffle to benefit Serenity Farm Equestrian Center, located in Luckey, will culminate with a drawing Feb. 14.

Tickets are $1 each or $10 for 12 tickets. Prizes include a two-night stay at Grandview in Geneva, Ohio; $250 in cash; a horse tapestry with pillows or a $50 gift card to The Andersons. Winners will be announced on K-100 radio.

Firefighters’ benefit
A homemade chili dinner will be held to benefit the Deceased Firefighters Memorial Sunday, Feb. 16 from noon-5 p.m. (unless sold out) at the Northwood Fire Department, located on Tracy Road.

Dinner will include chili, salad, crackers, dessert and punch or coffee. The donation is $6 for a full meal and $5 for a half meal. Spaghetti will be available for $1. Dine in our carry out. Call-ahead orders may be placed by calling 419-666-4341.

Meeting change
The Woodmore Board of Education has rescheduled its regular monthly meeting to Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m.

The board will meet at the high school library, 633 Fremont Street, Elmore.

The board had been scheduled to meet Feb. 18. The library is on the second floor of the school.
