Parents and grandparents will likely relive memories from long ago when they see many toys and operating displays from their own childhood. Kids will see old-time toys they can’t get today.

Highlights include:

• A 150,000-piece operating “LEGO Big City” layout presented by the Michigan Lego Club.

• The Tiedtke’s Department Store American Flyer antique operating train display.

• A rare, operating 1949 Lionel toy train store display featuring original, antique post-war toy trains just as they used to run in store windows.

• Many interesting layouts from area stores and clubs operating toy trains and accessories in all gauges.

• Exhibitors featuring wide array of operating toy displays.

• Free rides for little ones age 4 and younger on “Thomas” Riding Trains.

• More than 250 dealers varying in expertise in trains and toys from all eras including plastic, tin, diecast and more. Free appraisals and repair advice on site will be offered as well as original parts for sale.

Adult admission is $6 each. “Early birds” will be admitted at 9 a.m. for $8. Children ages 12 and under will be admitted free with a paid adult admission.

Home & Garden Show
The Professional Remodelers Organization will present a Home Improvement & Garden Show March 9, 10 and 11 at SeaGate Convention Centre. Hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The show will feature more than 175 exhibits from the area’s leading remodelers and landscapers. In addition, Detroit Tigers great Lance Parrish will be at the show Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. On Saturday, antique appraisers will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, visitors to the show can see Sasha Andreev, the star of HGTV’s “Curb Appeal,” between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Internet Genealogy II
The Hayes Presidential Center’s Internet Genealogy II class can help genealogy buffs discover how to get the most out of Internet genealogy research.

The next class takes place March 10 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Hayes Library. Head Librarian and veteran genealogist Becky Hill will explain how to discover the treasure trove of genealogical information contained in massive online subscription websites like Ancestry.com, HeritageQuest and Fold3.com. Hill also offers tips on making the best use of the time you spend searching these databases. The Hayes Library provides free access to all of these subscription sites via a bank of public-use computers available in its Reading Room.

Pearson Sunday Series
The Western Lake Erie Region during the War of 1812 will be the focus of the annual Friends of Pearson March Sunday Series, which features weekly presentations Sundays at 2 p.m. in Macomber Lodge at Pearson Metropark in Oregon. The lodge is located on Navarre Avenue.

The presentation schedule includes:
March 4: Jeff Helmer, a park ranger at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial on South Bass Island. March 11: Staff from Fort Meigs State Memorial in Perrysburg will discuss the battles that took place at the War of 1812 battlefield on the Maumee River.

March 18: Daniel Downing, education and operations chief at the River Raisin National Battlefield, will talk about the famous battle at that Monroe, Mich. battlefield.

March 25: Local historian and author Larry Michaels will discuss Ohio’s best-known explorer, Peter Navarre, who played a role in the war.

Curious about curling?
The Bowling Green Curling Club would like to give anyone who would like to experience the thrill of throwing a 40-pound rock down 150 feet of ice, a chance to do so.

“Curling is a really fun activity that almost anyone can learn in a short time and do for a lifetime,” club member Michael Nelson said. The Club curls at the BGSU Ice Arena from October through March.

The club extends an open invitation Wednesday evenings at 8 p.m. to try out the sport during regular league play. “There is an extra sheet of ice during this time, and a club member will be available to explain the game and give basic instruction,” Nelson said.

The cost is $15 per person for two hours of hands-on curling, which includes instruction on basic rules and technique, followed by actual curling. Due to limited space, registration is required by calling Mike at 419-262-1143 or Scott at 419-494-1114.

Sauder Village Bridal Show
Sauder Village’s Founder’s Hall will be filled with wedding professionals showcasing every resource a bride needs to plan the wedding of her dreams Sunday, March 11.

From noon to 4 p.m., brides- and grooms-to-be can network with wedding industry professionals including photographers, wedding planners, florists, DJs, caterers, bridal shops, decorators and more. There will also be special offers, food samples, entertainment and giveaways throughout the afternoon.

Zoo discounts offered
The days are longer, the skies are bluer and the weather is (we hope) warmer. To celebrate the beginning of spring, your Toledo Zoo offers special discounted admission throughout March.

Online coupons at the zoo’s website – toledozoo.org – offer visitors a 50 percent discount from March 1 through March 14, and a 25 percent discount from March 15 through March 31.

“Rent” auditions set
3B Productions will hold auditions for its upcoming presentation of “Rent.”

Auditions will be held March 9 from 7 to 10 p.m. and March 11 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Dance F/X Academy, 4730 W. Bancroft #9, Toledo.

Those auditioning should be prepared to sing a minute-and-a-half piece, preferably from the rock music/rock musical genres. The piece should showcase best vocal range and ability. Those auditioning should also be prepared for cold reads from the script and a short dance audition. An accompanist will be provided. Parental permission is required for those under 18. The East Toledo Senior Activities Center is looking for singers to join a new choir. Rehearsals will be held Mondays at 12:30 p.m. at the center, located in the Navarre Park Shelterhouse, 1001 White St., Toledo.

Limelighters presenting “Urinetown”
In conjunction with their March 9, 10 and 11 performances of the Tony Award-winning, “Urinetown, the Musical,” the Clay High School Limelighters are collecting toiletries to benefit the local non-profit “Food for Thought.”

The Limelighters will be placing special “Toilet-Trees” at collection sites around the Oregon community and at the performances. Donations of toilet paper, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush/toothpaste, and hand sanitizer are most needed.

The Limelighters will also be donating $1 of every ticket sold opening night, March 9, to the Cody Van Hersett Hockey Scholarship Fund.

Performances are in the Clay High School auditorium, with 7:30 p.m. curtain times Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. There will also be an opportunity for $20 “Dinner and a Show” tickets on Saturday, March 10, with proceeds supporting Limelighters Boosters. NHS to perform “Seussical”
Northwood High School will present “Seussical” March 16, 17 and 18 at the school Doors open at 7:30 p.m. for the Friday and Saturday performances, and at 2:30 p.m. for the Sunday show.

“Footloose”
Eastwood students will be performing the popular musical Footloose March 23, 24 and 25.
