Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Andrew M. LaPointe, whose wife, Jamie, is the daughter of Vicky Watson and Donald Watson, both of Oregon, and fellow Sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65) formed a Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions (CSADD) committee.

Marine Corps Pvt. James R. Sherry, grandson of Linda Burnell, of Oregon, earned the title of United States Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

One week prior to graduation, Sherry endured The Crucible, a 54-hour final test of recruits' minds and bodies. Upon completion, recruits are presented the Marine Corps emblem and called Marines for the first time.

Sherry is a 2009 graduate of Clay High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Anthony B. Robertson, a 2006 graduate of Genoa Area High School, recently completed U.S.

Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Robertson completed a variety of training exercises, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.
