Jonathan C. Weaver has joined the United States Army Reserve under the Delayed Training Program, which gives young men and women the opportunity to delay reporting for basic military training for up to 270 days. The recruit qualifies for a $20,000 enlistment bonus.

Weaver, who   currently attends Eastwood High School, will report to Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C., for basic training in June. He is the son of Jamie and Amy Weaver, of Pemberville.


Marine Corps Pfc. Michael S. Butler, II, son of Evelyn White of Laurel, Miss. and Michael Butler of Oregon, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S. C.

Greg Steinhurst, of Millbury, completed basic training at Naval Station Great Lakes on Jan. 23. He is the son of Mary Ann and Kurt Steinhurst.


Air Force Airman Chelsea F. Mercer has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Tex.

The airman, the daughter of Joe Mercer, of Gibsonburg, and Pam Gill, of Fremont, is a 2008 graduate of Gibsonburg High School.

Floyd K. Johnson has graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as "Operation Warrior Forge," at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash.

Cadets in their junior and senior year of college must complete the leadership development course. Upon successful completion of the course, the ROTC program, and graduation from college, cadets are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army, National Guard, or Reserve.

 He is the son of Floyd K. and Cheryl L. Johnson of Helena.
