Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Scott J. Hartzell graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Tex,

A 2008 graduate of Clay High School, Hartzel is the son of Ronnie Hartzel, of Oregon.


Travis E. Schlea has joined the U.S. Army under the Delayed Entry Program, which gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year.

Schlea, a 2009 graduate of Gibsonburg High School, reported to Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C., for basic training in July. He is the son of Donald Schlea and Karen Schlea of Helena.


Air Force Airman Kaleb M. McNally graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Tex.

The son of Bryan McNally of Oregon and Beth Hill of Lambertville, Mich., he is a 2008 graduate of Clay High School.

Steve Meyer was promoted to the rank of Major July 1.

Maj. Meyer, the son of Tim and Kathy Meyer of Luckey, is currently serving a year deployment to Al Basra, Iraq with the 274th Forward Surgical Team (Airborne) as the chief nurse anesthetist.

He is a 1994 graduate of Eastwood High School  and a 1999 graduate of the University of Cincinnati where he earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing. He also earned a master’s degree in nurse anesthesia from the U.S. Army Graduate Program.

Maj. Meyer will begin his 10th year on active duty this September. His wife, Capt. Eileen Meyer, who is also on active duty, is a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA). She is scheduled for deployment in January 2010. They have a daughter, Kaitlyn, who will turn 1 year old in August.

Maj. and Capt. Meyer are stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Air Force Airman Brandon M. Sharples graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Tex.

He is the son of Kimberly Sharples of Bowling Green, and the brother of Antony Sharples, of Genoa. He graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 2004.
