Women in Conservation
Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District “Women in Conservation Series” will be held in various locations throughout the county the third Wednesday of the month May through September.

The first workshop will be May 16 at the Winous Point Marsh Conservancy in Port Clinton, the location of the oldest hunt club in America.  Tom Kashmer, a bird researcher that has banded over 100,000 birds, will lead the group on a bird tour through different habitats ranging from forest to marsh.

Penta Ag Day

The Penta Career Center FFA Chapter will host an “Ag Day” April 28 from noon to 4 p.m. on the school campus, 9301 Buck Rd., Perrysburg.

Ag Day will feature a Spring Flower Sale by the Floral Design & Greenhouse production students; a Tree and Shrub Sale by the Landscape & Turfgrass Management students; dog grooming by the Small Animal Care students; and a Power Show coordinated by the Gas & Diesel Engine Systems students. Food will be available to purchase from Deet’s BBQ.

Although the event is free to attend, there is a $2 entry fee for each vehicle or piece of equipment entered in the Power Show. Prizes will be awarded in six divisions, including Antique Tractors, Modern Farm Equipment, Trucks, Off-Road Power Sports Equipment, Motorcycles, and Home and Garden Equipment. Entries will be judged at 2 p.m. with awards distributed at 3:30 p.m. Antique tractors and power equipment can arrive as early as 9 a.m. for entry into the Power Show.

Dog grooming prices are determined by weight of the animal and the services chosen. All pets must have proof of current rabies vaccination.

All proceeds from Ag Day will benefit the Penta Career Center FFA Chapter Scholarship Fund. Food safety basics
The Center for Innovative Food Technology (CIFT) and the Agricultural Incubator Foundation (AIF) will host a food safety workshop April 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the AIF, 13737 Middleton Pike (SR 582) in Bowling Green.

Food-related business owners, aspiring entrepreneurs and those who are producing a product to sell at markets and/or other retail establishments are encouraged to attend.
