Landowners or farmers looking to help prevent damage caused by deer, birds, raccoons and other critters can seek help and information from Joe Uhinck at the Ottawa County Soil and Water Conservation District at 419-898-1595.

Uhinck can offer information about identifying the source of crop damage, prevention techniques and in applying for a damage  permit through the Division of Wildlife.

Grassland program revived
The 2009 deadline for applications for the Grassland Reserve Program (GRP) is June 26.

Ohio Farm Service Agency announced the GRP was revitalized as a part of the 2008 Farm Bill, with a goal of enrolling 1.2 million acres nationwide.

The purpose of GRP is to assist landowners and farm operators in protecting grazing uses and related conservation values by conserving and restoring grassland resources on eligible private lands.
