The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency has announced the 2009 Market Assistance Loan Rate for corn and soybeans.

For 2009, the corn loan rate is $1.93 per bushel, while soybeans are $5.12 per bushel. The program provides producers with cash flow while the corn or soybeans are in storage on the farm or at a local elevator. The November 2009 interest rate is 1.375 percent.

Growers interested in obtaining nine-month loan on stored commodities must apply by visiting their local Farm Service Agency office.

Commodities that are harvested and stored on the farm or at an approved elevator are eligible for a loan if the producer maintains beneficial interest in the crop that includes title and control of the commodity. Commodities are not eligible for a farm stored loan if the commodity is stored in a wagon or trailer.
