The class, which will be taught by 577 Foundation horticulturalist Vicki Gallagher, will start with an evaluation form designed to help gardeners determine what changes may need to be made before seed catalogs start rolling in for next year.
The fee is $5 per person. Pre-registration and pre-payment is required. Call 419-874-4174 or visit www.577foundation.org.
Sales closing date set
Brian D. Frieden, director of the Springfield Regional Office of the Risk Management Agency, has announced that the sales closing date for the 2010 crop insurance for apples and grapes is Nov. 20.
Last year in Ohio, more than $3.5 million in protection (liability) was provided to perennial crop producers.
Sales closing dates are significant in the crop insurance year because signing up for insurance, changing the crop insured or level of protection and changing insurance providers must be done by the announced date. Sales closing dates vary by crop and location.
Waivers of administrative fees for producers who qualify as limited resource farmers are available from all crop insurance companies. Private agencies will assist those qualifying producers with determining eligibility for waivers.
Producers are encouraged to contact their agent for assistance. A listing of crop insurance agents is available at www.rma.usda.gov/tools/agents.
