Young Farmers wrap up
The Oak Harbor Young Farmers Chapter recently wrapped up their educational meetings for the current school year. The group of 35 local agriculturalists met each Thursday evening from mid-November through early April. The chapter members extended their gratitude to the presenters who visited throughout the year for their expertise and time. They also thanked the Benton-Carroll-Salem Schools Board of Education and Penta Career Center for their support of the chapter. Other thanks went to the auctioneers for the 34th Annual Community Consignment Auction that was held at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds March 7 and to Jon Overmyer, Chad Brough and Kevin Fox for providing services for the auction.
The chapter participated in several community service projects throughout the year, including organizing a Holiday Ham Giveaway for Benton, Carroll and Salem township families in need; and making donations to help Ottawa County Cattlemen, the Oak Harbor FFA Chapter, Oak Harbor High School Academic Boosters, Ottawa County Junior Fair Awards, the Ottawa County Fair Board, and Ohio Young Farmers, Inc.
Activities will begin again Aug. 12 with a tour of the Oak Harbor High School farm plots, followed by a cookout and an educational meeting on animal composting.
