A draft disaster mitigation plan for Wood County is available for review by the public.

The Wood County Emergency Management Agency has been consulting with local communities throughout the county this year to prepare the draft, said Brad Gilbert, EMA director.

The draft plan can be viewed by clicking on the mitigation plan update link on the main page of the county website: www.co.wood.oh.us.

Comments on the plan will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 29 and can be submitted by email to the EMA at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

The county adopted its original mitigation plan in 2005. Federal law requires plans to be updated every five years.

PUCO hearing
The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio will hold a hearing Oct. 26 at the Maumee Municipal Building, 400 Conant Street, for the public to comment on rates for all-electric homes in the FirstEnergy service area.

The hearing starts at 6 p.m.

The PUCO says it has correspondence and phone calls from more than 650 customers about all-electric rates and is interested in receiving more information at the hearing:

• Contracts and other documentation residents in all-electric homes have concerning current and future rates, including future owners.

•Opinions on setting rates and whether the commission should take into account cost differences between natural gas and electric service.

• All-electric homes have had discounted rates for decades. New federal regulations and wholesale market changes, however, could necessitate altering the discount that may be adopted in the FirstEnergy case. The PUCO will weigh different means of phasing in bills of all-electric residences to accommodate the possible changes.

For information on FirstEnergy’s application visit the PUCO website: www.PUCO.ohio.gov. The case number is 10-176-EL-ATA.
