Take-Back Day set for Sept. 25

Area law enforcement departments are participating in a collaborative effort with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency to remove unused pharmaceutical drugs from the nation’s medicine cabinets..

National Take-Back Day will be held Sept. 25 to alert the public to increasing pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse.

Collection sites for dropping off unused, expired, or unwanted medications for destruction are being set up at area police departments, hospitals, fire departments, and social service agencies.

Persons surrendering the medications may remain anonymous. Prescription and over-the-counter solid dosage medications will be accepted. Intra-venous solutions, needles, medical wastes, and illicit substances, are not part of the program.

In Ottawa County, collection sites will be at:
• Village of Genoa Police Department, 102 E. Sixth Street

 

• Portage Fire District Station, 242 W. Water Street, Oak Harbor

• Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, 315 Madison Street, Port Clinton

• Lakeside Fire Station 2, 15 S. Bridge Rod, Danbury Twp.


In Wood County, sites will be at:
• Wood County Hospital, 950 W. Wooster St., Bowling Green

• Wood County Sheriff’s Department, 960 E. Gypsy Lane, Bowling Green

• Behavioral Connections, 1010 N. Prospect, Bowling Green, and 27072 Carronade Dr., Perrysburg

• North Baltimore Police Department, 203 Main Street, North Baltimore

Collection sites will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.


Registration deadline
The deadline for new voter registrations and changes of address for the November general election is Oct. 4.

The Ottawa County Board of Elections will be open that day from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. The board office is located at 8444 W. State Route 163, Oak Harbor.

New registrations and address changes may also be completed at libraries and bureau of motor vehicle offices, the Ottawa County Health Department, and at the county courthouse at the clerk of courts title department and treasurer’s office.

Watchdog award to Gardner

State Representative Randy Gardner, R- Bowling Green, has received the Watchdog of the Treasury Award.

The award recognizes legislators or policymakers every year who work for limited government, lower taxes, encourage free enterprise and regulatory relief.

The award was presented at a ceremony in Columbus held by the United Conservatives of Ohio.
