Ottawa County Common Pleas Court Judge Bruce Winters has approved a request by a special prosecutor to reschedule the hearing of Terri Camp, Woodville, who is seeking to have her driving privileges re-instated after being convicted of aggravated vehicular homicide while driving drunk. Judge Winters approved the motion by Christy Cole and moved the hearing date to March 19 at 10 a.m. Cole, who was appointed special prosecutor for the case by Mark Mulligan, Ottawa County Prosecutor, said she requested the continuance because she had a scheduling conflict with her private practice. She has already filed a motion opposing Camp’s request.
Attorney William Hayes filed a motion with the court on behalf of Camp, who was convicted in 1993 for the death of Ronald Miller, 14, in a crash on State Route 51 in Clay Township. Camp served 10 years in prison of a 4 to 10-year sentence that also included the lifetime suspension of her driver’s license. State law allows motorists who’ve had their licenses revoked to seek re-instatement with the sentencing court after 15 years from the date of the suspension if certain criteria are met. Camp’s request has caused a stir in the community. While many leaders and residents in the Woodville area have signed a petition supporting her request, friends and family members of the victim and others have been equally opposed. The issue has even been the source of spirited discussion on area blog sites.
