Toledo, Lake Township to discuss JEDD board

A special meeting of officials from the City of Toledo and Lake Township is scheduled for Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. to discuss organizing the board of directors of a Joint Economic Development District (JEDD) the city and township formed at Metcalf Field.

The meeting will be held at the township administration building, 27975 Cummings Road.

Richard Welling, a township trustee, said officials will be interviewing candidates interested in being appointed to the JEDD’s board of directors.

One of the board’s first goals will be to apply for funding for infrastructure improvements at the JEDD site, Welling said.

Under the JEDD agreement, the city and township agree to share income tax revenues from new businesses that locate in the JEDD area.


Seminar for public officials
A one-day seminar for mayors, clerks, board of public affairs members, council members, and administrators in villages and smaller communities to learn about their responsibilities and resources for supplying safe drinking water and for wastewater treatment is being sponsored by the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments.

The seminar will be held Feb. 20, at Owens Community College.  There is a $10 fee.

Grants for ash tree removal
Federal grant funds are available to assist northwest Ohio communities remove hazardous ash trees along public rights-of-way and replacing lost tree canopy cover, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Forestry.

Grant funding totaling $380,000 will help northwest Ohio communities address the damage caused by the non-native emerald ash borer as it continues its destructive march across the region.

Communities in the following counties are eligible to apply: Allen, Ashland, Auglaize, Crawford, Defiance, Erie, Fulton, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Huron, Lorain, Lucas, Marion, Medina, Mercer, Ottawa, Paulding, Putnam, Richland, Sandusky, Seneca, Shelby, Van Wert, Williams, Wood and Wyandot.

To request an application, eligible communities should contact Drew Todd, ODNR Division of Forestry at 614-265-6707.


Board office closed
Ottawa County board of elections will be closed Feb. 15 for Presidents Day.


DD board to meet
The Ottawa County Board of Developmental Disabilities will meet Feb. 22 at 5 p.m. at the board office, 235 N. Toussaint South Rd., Oak Harbor.  Meetings are open to the public
