Contract bids for construction of a new elementary school building in the Genoa district are slated to be opened Dec. 23.

Bid packages will be received until 1 p.m. when they’ll be opened and read in the John C. Roberts Middle School media center, according to Bill Nye, district treasurer.

The district is estimating the project will cost about $11.4 million:
• General trades contract - $6.8 million
• Food service contract - $307,620
• Fire protection contract - $214,460
• Plumbing contract - $580,580
• HVAC contract - $1.4 million
• Electrical contract - $2.03 million

The total alternate bid estimate is $1.5 million.

Voters in the district approved a bond issue that will leverage funding through the Ohio School Facilities Commission for the project.

Park board appointees
Three people have been appointed to the Wood County Board of Commissioners.

Wood County Probate Judge David Woessner appointed Joe Long, Grand Rapids, Mary McCormick Krueger, Perrysburg, and Robert Callecod, Bowling Green, to the board from a field of 18 applicants.

Long’s term is for three years; Krueger’s term is for two years, and Callecod’s term is one year. All begin Jan. 1, 2010.

Judge Woessner said he was impressed with “the quality of all applicants” for the board.

Of the three appointees, he said: “The practical experience they bring to the table and obvious commitment they have to helping the parks and overall community will make them excellent additions to the board.”
