Extension office selling county plat books

The Ottawa County Cooperative Extension office is offering county plat books for sale to benefit the county’s 4-H program.

Published by the Thomas Gregory Plat Map Co., the books contain maps showing the division of property into streets, blocks, and lots, including measurements of individual parcels.

The books are available for $20 at the extension office, 240 W. Lake Street, Oak Harbor.

Block Watch
The Village of Walbridge block watch will meet Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. in village council chambers, 111 N. Main.

For information contact the police department at (419) 666-1830 and ask for Officer Jason Harden or Chief Walt Tylicki.

Traffic limited
East Rice Street in the Village of Elmore will be open to local traffic only starting Sept. 8 while crews are working on a sewer project. Village officials anticipate the limit on traffic to be in effect for about a month.


B-C-S study
The Benton-Carroll-Salem School District has retained a professor from the University of Toledo to conduct a study of fourth grade students and if there is a correlation between their achievements and the daily use of wireless mini-computers in the classroom.

Dr. Judy Lambert is conducting the research project and also providing training for fourth grade teachers on the effective use of computer technology.

The B-C-S school board will hold its next regular meeting Sept. 22 at 6 p.m.


Support for 7-Eleven
A resolution of support for the owners of the 7-Eleven store in Walbridge who are trying to stop a decision by the corporation’s management to end gasoline sales at the store has been approved by the Lake Township Board of Trustees.

The resolution says the store has been in business 32 years and supplies fuel to local government, businesses, and residents. Loss of the fuel operations, the resolution says, will have “…a negative impact on the store, eight employees, and the community…”

Eastwood panel to meet
The Eastwood Facilities Planning Committee will meet Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. in the high school library. Renewal of the current permanent improvement levy and the upcoming bond issue are on the meeting agenda.
