To celebrate, the Ohio Department of Aging is asking Ohioans to submit photos of grandparents and grandchildren sharing and learning about the events and people that made their families and their communities strong via the agency’s Facebook page.

Through Sept. 7, Ohioans of any age can visit www.facebook.com/OhioDepartmentOfAging and post photos to the department’s wall that fit the theme, “Grandparents – Sharing Heritage and History.”

Some photo ideas include visits to historical sites, viewing photo albums together, shopping for antiques and other intergenerational activities.

Indicted
Princess Lee Human-Wiggins, 24, of Highland Park Michigan, and Daniel J. Washington, were recently indicted by the Ottawa County Grand Jury for Trafficking in Drugs and Possession of Drugs, felonies of the first degree; Tampering with Evidence, felonies of the third degree and misdemeanor counts of Child Endangering.

According to Ohio Highway Patrol reports, a vehicle being operated by Washington was stopped for a traffic violation Aug. 5 on Benton-Carroll Road in Oak Harbor. Prior to the stop, troopers observed the passenger drop something which was discovered to be a large amount of crack cocaine out of the passenger window. Human-Wiggins’ 3-month-old child was also in the vehicle, along with more than $7,000 in cash.

Also indicted was Cheryl Linke, 59 and Michael Linke, also known as Michael Linke Sr., 52, both of Gibsonburg. The pair was charged with Obstructing Justice and Tampering with Evidence following a motorcycle crash in Harris Township in April.

Mr. Linke gave investigators information that he was involved in the crash, however, further investigation revealed that he had not been involved, but was called by his son, who was involved in the crash and was taken from the scene by Cheryl Linke before troopers arrived, police reports said.

The defendants have been issued summonses to make their initial appearances in the Ottawa County Court of Common Pleas on Sept. 19.

An indictment is a formal charge in the common pleas court and does not denote guilt or innocence, Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Mulligan noted.

Arson indictment
A Millbury man was arrested Aug. 29 after an Ottawa County grand jury indicted him on two counts of aggravated arson,

Michael L. Boyer, of SR 51, is accused of deliberately setting a fire in his home on April 5.

Authorities said his wife was sleeping inside at the time. The charges are first- and second-degree felonies.

Boyer, 53, was also indicted on one count of insurance fraud, a fourth-degree felony. He is being held in the Ottawa County Detention Facility without bond, pending an arraignment in the county’s common pleas court.

Labor Day travel
AAA projects approximately 31.5 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more this Labor Day holiday weekend, a 2.4 percent decline from the 32.3 million who traveled in 2010.

The small decrease is being attributed to recent economic uncertainty and increasing airfare. However, Labor Day continues to be a busy travel weekend as families and friends gather for one last celebration of summer.

“The Labor Day weekend is an opportunity for families to head to their favorite vacation spots one last time before the busy fall season begins,” said April Cochran, marketing operations manager of AAA Northwest Ohio. “AAA offices are busy helping families make travel plans to hit the open road and the skies over the holiday weekend.”
